National Consumer Protection Week | March 5 – 11, 2023

Mar 1, 2023

Consumer protection can include guarding yourself against:

  • Fraud
  • Identity theft
  • Scams

Consumer protection can also include familiarizing yourself with the best ways to use credit, how to shop for a used car, or how to maximize your security online.

In 2022, $8.8 billion was lost to scams.

It is your responsibility to be aware of your consumer rights and responsibilities.

Four Signs That It’s A Scam:

  1. Scammers PRETEND to be from an organization you know.
  2. Scammers say there’s a PROBLEM or PRIZE.
  3. Scammers PRESSURE you to act immediately.
  4. Scammers tell you to PAY in a specific way.

Here are two things you can do if you suspect you’re being scammed:

  1. Verify the phone number you are being called from.
  2. Call another friend or family member to see if they have gotten a similar call.

Protect yourself and your community by reporting fraud, scams, and bad business practices.
