Is travel to Valdez, lodging or to the camp provided?
Currently there is no travel or lodging provided.
How much does it cost?
The camp is free to all eligible participants. Funding is provided by Chugachmiut ACES program. To be eligible for the Video Camp, you must be an enrolled member of a Tribe or be an Alaska Native/American Indian living within the Chugachmiut service area (Seward, Cordova, Valdez, Port Graham, Nanwalek, Tatitlek, Chenega).
Can I still attend the camp if I am not eligible?
If you don’t meet the eligibility requirements but would be interested in attending the camp if an opportunity arises, please fill out our interest form – here.
What will I learn at the camp?
You’ll learn the basics of documentary filmmaking, including story development, filming techniques, and video editing. You’ll also collaborate with fellow campers to create a unique video project from start to finish.
What should I bring to the camp?
Comfortable clothing, a water bottle, and any personal items you may need. All necessary equipment and materials for the camp will be provided.
Will food be provided during the camp?
Yes, lunch and snacks will be provided each day for all camp participants.
Can parents/guardians attend the camp?
The camp is designed specifically for youth participants, and parents/guardians are not expected to attend the daily sessions. However, parents/guardians are welcome to stick their heads in to see the process at any time and are encouraged to attend the red carpet premiere event at the end of the camp to celebrate the students’ achievements.
How many students can attend the camp?
We have a capacity for up to 25 students for this year’s camp. Spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to sign up as soon as possible!
What are the age requirements for the camp?
The camp is designed for students between the ages of 11 and 18.
What is the application process for the camp?
To apply, eligible students should fill out a Chugachmiut application. Click here to access the application form. Applications will be reviewed, and eligible students will be notified of their acceptance into the camp.
What if the camp is full, or I cannot attend this year?
If the camp reaches capacity or you’re unable to attend this year, we encourage you to fill out our interest form to stay informed about future camp opportunities.
