VALDEZ, AK — In a landmark partnership, Tatitlek, Chenega, and Chugach (Naswik), Chugach Alaska has proudly announced the groundbreaking of Chugach Naswik. This groundbreaking multi-use facility will pioneer a transformation in downtown Valdez, instilling new vitality into the community’s heart.
The inception of Chugach Naswik marks the fulfillment of a long-held vision for the partners, underscoring their commitment to enriching opportunities for Alaska Native shareholders. This project represents more than just a physical development—it stands as an embodiment of community empowerment and forward-thinking in Valdez.
The cornerstone ceremony, held on May 22, 2023, at 5 p.m. at the junction of Egan & Meals, will be remembered as the day when a new symbol of progress and community development began to take shape in Valdez. The event saw the participation of Chugach board members, executives, community members from Valdez, VNT members, beneficiaries, and dignitaries.
Designed to be much more than just a commercial hub, Chugach Naswik is set to provide a dual benefit – opening up accommodations and training opportunities for Alaska Native shareholders, and widening the region’s short-term housing options. Through this, it is poised to stimulate local economic growth and strengthen the community’s cohesion.
Chugach Alaska eagerly anticipates sharing the journey of Chugach Naswik’s construction, a testament to the shared vision of the partners.
