The purpose of these programs are to increase the wellness and self-sufficiency of the Alaskan Native and American Indian community. This program is a secondary source and designed as short term financial assistance for those in need and for the purpose of meeting “essential needs” (i.e. housing, utilities, food, necessary transportation and certain personal needs).
BIA Programs available through The Valdez Native Tribe:

- Adult Vocational Training
- Social Service / General Assistance
- Burial Assistance
- Johnson O’Malley Grants
- Job Placement and Training
Job Placement and Training:
Used to advance economic growth through the development of a skilled workforce. The purpose of the Job Placement and Training program is to assist eligible Alaskan Native and American Indians to obtain job skills and to find and retain a job leading to self-sufficiency.
Johnson O’Malley Grants:
Provides Alaskan Native and American Indian Students enrolled in a public school system the resources that help them stay in school and increase their chances of success. Typically, there fund provide remedial instruction, counseling, and cultural programs, but may also cover small but important needs such as school supplies and items that enable the youth to participate in curricular and extra-curricular programs. Eligible youth age 3 – Grade 12
Adult Vocational Training:
Earn “Gainful and Meaningful Employment” (employed but underpaid) by obtaining training and permanent employment assistance for eligible Alaskan Native and American Indians. Vocational training grants are awarded for the length of the training program, not to exceed 2 years.
Higher Education:
Provides grants/scholarships to eligible Alaskan Native and American Indians for tuition, required fees, room and board, and textbooks. Applicants must be enrolled in a institution of higher education with a 4 year degree program.
